Ian Rosenberger of Thread International
Last week we visited the Beauty Shoppe Coworking Space in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood to talk with Ian Rosenberger of Thread International. Ian spent the majority of his twenties trying–and failing–to find his life’s work. Despite the long search, he never found his way until an odd combination of events including pirates, tumors, and earthquakes encouraged him to become a social entrepreneur.
His company, Thread International, partners with locals in some of Haiti’s most challenged communities to gather trash, process it, and turn it into thread. This thread is then sold to other companies seeking to operate responsibly by offering their customers high-end products that benefit the communities who helped make them–an uncommon practice in the textile industry.
