What is the Underground Music Showcase (UMS)?
Basically, the UMS is a combination of your favorite people, classic venues, surprise acts, backyard parties, and cocktail breaks all shaken into one beautiful blend of an urban music festival. With a history that stretches back 14 years, it’s grown from a single night of music at the Bluebird to four days of indie music that takes over South Broadway and celebrates multiples forms of live art. This year’s UMS hosted over 400 bands at 20+ official venues—with plenty of unofficial gatherings and concerts tucked away in the nooks of the surrounding Baker neighborhood. Attending the festival continues to play a memorable role in my Denver career & it’s a pleasure to share with you a few of the faces in the crowd.
By no means is this intended to be an exhaustive list of the personalities you’d find at the UMS, but rather it’s enough to wet your whistle to return next year. Stories were kept short because all interviews were shot and edited during the showcase. Feel free to take them in chunks and surreptitiously sneak them during the work day.
